“

I am so thankful for the lighthouse! I am still sober! It was a long journey to get this far but if it wasn't for my amazing counselor and my therapist I probably wouldn’t have made it through.

These people helped me break down what's really going on inside and deal with what I was numbing away with substance! I am continuing this lifetime journey of sobriety and it started there at the Lighthouse! If I can do it, so can anyone else!

Recovery Story

She Stopped Numbing What Was Hurting

Taiomah entered recovery carrying more than a substance problem. In her own words, therapy helped her break down “what’s really going on inside” and begin dealing with what she had been numbing with substances. That distinction is at the heart of meaningful trauma-specific addiction treatment. Sobriety becomes more sustainable when someone develops the insight, support, and coping skills to face the emotions and experiences that previously drove them toward chemical relief.

Taiomah credits her counselor and therapist with helping her through that process and reported continued clean time while continuing what she called her “lifetime journey of sobriety.” Her experience shows the value of going beneath the substance use and building a different way to respond to what hurts.

Groups & Activities

Trauma can make unpredictability feel unsafe. A thoughtfully structured day creates consistency, builds trust in the treatment process, and gives you repeated opportunities to practice new responses in real time.

Therapy, trauma and recovery education, coping-skills practice, mindfulness, wellness, peer connection, and 12-Step recovery work together to turn insight into action and help new patterns become stronger, more natural, and more sustainable.

Our Unique Approach to Trauma & PTSD Treatment

More than 25 years of treating addiction and 25,000+ clients have taught us something essential: trauma is often woven deeply into the patterns that keep people using. We have spent decades refining how trauma-informed care, clinical structure, psychiatric support, emotional regulation, relapse prevention, and recovery culture work together to produce lasting change.

Every part of this track is intentionally engineered toward one outcome: helping you build the stability, skills, identity, and support system required for long-term recovery. We create recovery success stories every day. For adults whose addiction is complicated by trauma, PTSD, anxiety, or chronic stress, Lighthouse is your best option for trauma-informed addiction treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Trauma & PTSD Addiction Treatment

Trauma-informed care shapes every level of treatment at Lighthouse. It means safety, trust, emotional regulation, clinical pacing, and awareness of trauma are built into how care is delivered.

Our Trauma & PTSD Track adds a more focused treatment structure for people whose trauma, PTSD, anxiety, chronic stress, or emotional dysregulation are directly affecting substance use and relapse risk. Your treatment plan brings trauma-specific clinical work, psychiatric support, grounding, coping skills, relapse prevention, and structured recovery programming together around those needs.

If trauma has become part of the cycle keeping you or someone you love stuck in addiction, speak with Admissions about whether the Trauma & PTSD Track is the right treatment pathway.

Yes. When trauma symptoms and substance use reinforce one another, treating them within one coordinated plan gives the clinical team a clearer picture of what is driving the cycle. Our Trauma & PTSD Track integrates addiction treatment with psychiatric care, individual therapy, trauma-focused groups, emotional regulation, coping-skills development, and relapse prevention. The same treatment priorities can continue through Residential Treatment, PHP, and IOP as stability and independence increase.

After decades of treating complex addiction, we know lasting recovery requires addressing the factors that repeatedly pull someone back toward substance use. Call Admissions and tell us what has been happening. We will help determine the appropriate level of care and whether this track fits your needs.

No. You do not need to walk into treatment ready to tell your entire story. The Trauma & PTSD Track begins by helping you feel more stable, understand your reactions, regulate intense emotions, recognize triggers, and develop safer ways to cope. Seeking Safety, grounding, emotional regulation, boundaries, and present-focused skills allow meaningful trauma treatment to begin without requiring detailed disclosure before you are ready. Deeper trauma work is paced around clinical stability and treatment goals.

For many people who have spent years surviving through avoidance, substances, or emotional shutdown, that pacing matters. You can begin recovery exactly where you are. Admissions can explain what entering treatment looks like and help you take the first step.

You will have a clinical team around you that can respond as your needs change. If anxiety, intrusive thoughts, cravings, emotional overwhelm, or other trauma-related symptoms begin to intensify, the team reassesses your stability and adjusts the treatment approach. That can include additional grounding, distress-tolerance work, individual clinical support, psychiatric care, medication management, or changes in treatment intensity according to clinical need. The goal is to identify escalation early and help you respond before distress drives the same behaviors that have kept addiction going. You are not expected to manage those moments alone.

If trauma symptoms have made previous attempts at recovery difficult to sustain, talk with Admissions about how our Trauma & PTSD Track addresses that pattern directly.

Seeking Safety gives you practical tools for managing trauma-related distress without returning to substances. The approach focuses on present-day safety, grounding, emotional regulation, triggers, healthy boundaries, relationships, asking for help, warning signs, and relapse prevention. Those skills are reinforced through structured groups, individual therapy, treatment planning, and real-time support so they become usable during actual moments of stress. This is especially valuable for people who know that fear, memories, conflict, anxiety, or emotional pain repeatedly lead back to drinking or using.

Seeking Safety is one part of our broader Trauma & PTSD Track, where multiple clinical and recovery approaches work together around the same goal: helping you build a life that no longer depends on substances for relief. Speak with Admissions to learn how the track is incorporated into treatment.

The Trauma & PTSD Track follows the length and intensity of your underlying level of care because trauma treatment is integrated into the larger recovery plan. Typical Lighthouse ranges include 3 to 10 days for Detox, 30 to 90+ days for Residential Treatment, 2 to 6 weeks for PHP, and 4 to 12+ weeks for IOP. Your actual timeline depends on medical necessity, clinical progress, trauma severity, treatment goals, and readiness. Recovery is strengthened when each transition is intentional, so planning for the next stage begins early and can include continued treatment, Sober Living, psychiatric care, therapy, and recovery support. You do not need to determine the timeline yourself. Contact Admissions and the clinical team will help identify the right starting point and build the path forward.

Yes. Family involvement can be an important part of recovery when it supports the treatment plan. Trauma and addiction often affect trust, communication, boundaries, conflict, and the entire home environment, leaving families exhausted and unsure how to help. Family therapy, education, and guided support can help loved ones understand what is happening, recognize unhealthy patterns, strengthen communication, set healthier boundaries, and become more effective recovery supports. Our family systems approach also gives families a clearer role in what comes next after treatment. If you are trying to help someone you love and feel like nothing you have tried is working, you do not have to solve this alone. Call Admissions. We can help you understand the treatment options, the Trauma & PTSD Track, and the next appropriate step.

Yes, in most cases we can accept your policy. Lighthouse accepts 30+ commercial insurance plans and also provides private-pay and Medi-Cal/DMC pathways. Our Admissions team verifies benefits, reviews the available financial pathway, explains reported coverage and known financial responsibility, gathers the clinical information needed for screening, and helps coordinate the next step. You do not need to understand your policy before calling, and you do not need to decide whether you need detox, residential treatment, PHP, IOP, or the Trauma & PTSD Track on your own.
