“

Thank god for the Lighthouse!! This place is amazing. They gave me a solution to allow me to become an active and productive member of my family and society. I did everything that was suggested like going to sober living, getting a sponsor, and working steps. I am super grateful for this place the staff really cares and anyone that’s willing to put in the work to recover will find the help they need at the lighthouse!

Frequently Asked Questions About Sober Living

Sober living gives you a structured place to rebuild your life while practicing recovery in the real world. You begin managing your own schedule, responsibilities, relationships, work, school, appointments, and recovery commitments while staying connected to accountability and support.

Residents follow clear house rules and curfews, complete household responsibilities, attend recovery meetings, participate in weekly house meetings, and complete random UA and breathalyzer testing. The goal is to turn the principles you learned in treatment into the way you actually live each day.

Over time, recovery starts to feel less like something you are working on and more like the foundation underneath your life.

Sober living is a strong next step when you are ready for more freedom and responsibility while continuing to benefit from structure, accountability, fellowship, and guidance.

Many residents are transitioning from Residential Treatment or participating in PHP or IOP. You may be rebuilding your career, returning to school, repairing relationships, improving financial stability, strengthening your recovery network, or simply learning how to live consistently without drugs or alcohol.

This stage is about becoming increasingly capable while remaining teachable and connected. You practice making good decisions, following through on commitments, asking for help, and building a life that supports your recovery.

Residential Treatment provides 24-hour structured clinical care with therapy, groups, case management, psychiatric support, recovery programming, and continuous staff supervision.

Sober living gives you greater independence within a substance-free recovery home. Your day begins to look more like everyday life. You manage responsibilities, attend meetings, participate in work or school, maintain the home, and stay accountable to clear expectations.

Clinical treatment continues through PHP or IOP when recommended. Sober living gives you the environment to practice what treatment has taught you while gradually building the confidence and consistency required for independent life.

Yes. Many residents continue Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) while living in sober housing.

PHP provides a more intensive daytime treatment schedule with therapy, recovery education, relapse prevention, case management, and continued clinical support. IOP provides a more flexible schedule as you take on additional work, school, family, and personal responsibilities.

You get to practice recovery in two places at once: inside treatment, where you continue strengthening clinical skills, and outside treatment, where you learn how to use those skills in everyday life.

Many residents stay for several months, and some benefit from a longer period of support. The right amount of time depends on your recovery progress, stability, goals, employment or education, financial readiness, support system, and preparation for independent living.

There is value in giving yourself enough time to make healthy routines feel normal. Work becomes consistent. Meetings become part of your week. Responsibilities get handled. Relationships become healthier. Confidence grows through repeated action.

Transition Planning helps you prepare for what comes next so leaving sober living is another planned step forward in recovery.

Expect clear structure and real accountability. Residents maintain sobriety, follow house rules and curfews, complete household responsibilities, attend required recovery meetings, participate in weekly house meetings, and comply with random UA and breathalyzer testing.

Work, school, outpatient treatment, job searching, sponsorship, recovery meetings, and other productive activities can become part of your weekly rhythm.

These expectations give you repeated practice doing the things a stable life requires: showing up, keeping your word, managing your time, respecting others, accepting direction, and taking responsibility for your recovery.

The goal is to leave with more than a place to go. You want a life that already has structure underneath it.

Your transition may include independent housing, continued outpatient care, therapy, psychiatric services, employment, education, transportation, family support, recovery meetings, sponsorship, and community resources. Planning for these areas begins before you leave so your next step has direction.

Graduates can also remain connected through the Alumni Program, including meetings, events, fellowship, peer support, milestone celebrations, and long-term involvement in the Lighthouse recovery community. Recovery keeps growing through the relationships and routines you continue to invest in.

For many clients, insurance coverage is primarily connected to clinical treatment services such as PHP or IOP. Sober living may be available as a housing option while you participate in those programs, based on availability and the needs of your recovery plan.
