Vaping is in an all-time high, especially in the U.S. youth population with more than 3.6 million teens vaping in 2018. This is considered a phenomenal increase compared to previous years.

But Americans are not only vaping flavored nicotine. Vape pens and e-cigarettes are now being used to inhale different substances. One of the more popular substances that are being vaped aside from nicotine is CBD Vape Oil.

The popularity of CBD has risen over the years as it is said to deliver many beneficial effects. This is one reason why people are switching to vaping CBD rather than smoking cigarettes. This trend brings into question whether using CBD vape oil is safe.

Here are nine things you need to know before making that move.

1. CBD is short for cannabidiol often derived from hemp plants.

CBD is a compound found in the cannabis plant. It is short for “cannabidiol”, which is the second most abundant cannabinoid next to THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol.

CBD is often derived from the hemp plant, which is also a cannabis plant that contains no more than 0.3% THC. If a cannabis plant contains more than that above-mentioned THC amount, then it is no longer considered as hemp. CBD is used in food and cosmetic products.

2. CBD Vape Oil is different from CBD Oil for cosmetic or food use.

CBD Vape OilMany people refer to the CBD used for vaping as “CBD Vape Oil”, however, this can be a misleading term. The more suitable name for CBD that is vaped is “CBD vape juice” or “CBD distillate”.

The CBD made for vaping does not actually contain any actual oil and is very different from CBD tinctures. What this means is that the CBD oil that you buy online for cosmetic or food-grade use is most likely not suitable for inhalation. If this type of CBD oil is inhaled, this could cause serious health risks.

WARNING: Before inhaling any CBD oil, make sure that it is suitable for inhalation or you may suffer health problems.

3. CBD is vaped to get pain and anxiety relief.

For people suffering from pain and anxiety, CBD is often considered as a natural way to get relief. Additionally, CBD is used to relieve depression, improve mood, gain relaxation, treat sleep disorders and enhance sleep quality. CBD is also used for its anti-inflammatory effects.

4. You cannot get high on CBD.

CBD is non-hallucinogenic because it is derived from the hemp plant. The 0.3% of THC, which is the hallucinogenic compound, is not enough to get you high. If you feel euphoric, chances are, the CBD you are vaping is not pure or mixed with THC and other chemicals.

5. Side effects of CBD

One of the most common reported side effects associated with using CBD is mild drowsiness. This is often experienced by first-time users and subsides with regular use.

For medium to heavy users, there have been reports of feeling hunger, red eyes, and slight euphoria. The euphoria is said to be attributed to people who vape CBD mixed with THC. Generally, the side effects of CBD are comparatively less pronounced than narcotic drugs.

CBD derived from hemp is legal in all states, with the 2018 Farm Bill clarifying the status of hemp as an agricultural product and not a dangerous controlled substance with no medical use.

However, CBD derived from marijuana which may have more than 0.3% THC may still be illegal in some states. Be careful about bringing CBD across states or when traveling across the country unless you are sure of the laws and regulations of the place you are traveling to.

7. Vaping pure CBD will not show on a drug test

Theoretically, Ii you are vaping pure CBD juice, this will not show up on any drug test. However, you still have to be careful because if the CBD juice you vaped has a high THC content, then this could show up in a drug test.

8. Be careful of CBD cartridges

CBD cartridges are disposable e-cigarette/vape tanks filled with CBD juice. These cartridges make vaping CBD more accessible and easier. However, you have to be careful because many black-market cartridges do not contain actual CBD and may even contain chemicals that are carcinogenic when heated or inhaled.

9. Lung injury caused by vaping

Vaping CBDIn recent months, there have been reports of more than 1,000 people in America who suffered vaping-related lung injury, a condition which has now been renamed as EVALI or e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury. The cases have been linked to the use of illicit THC vape cartridges.

While CBD and CBD vape oil or juice are low in toxicity, users still have to be careful before vaping any pre-filled CBD vape cartridges.

This is because until now, CBD products in the United States are still unregulated. This means that authorities do not check whether the CBD oil or CBD vape product you are using actually contain CBD.
