Molly Drug Facts

Molly is not a brand new drug nor is it a trendy pill that just appeared overnight. It has been a mainstay party drug for decades and has even caused numerous controversial fatalities. Yet, no matter the danger, the molly drug continues to survive. While many drug users have turned to opioids or Xanax, there are still those who prefer to have that molly high.

Molly is one of the more popular party drugs often used in music festivals and club raves. This is because taking the drug is supposed to give you both a hallucinogenic and stimulant effect. Users say that taking molly gives them a euphoric sensation, which heightens their pleasure, while at the same time also providing them energy to last the night.

While Molly has been around longer in the party drug scenes, many people still have false ideas and misconceptions about this drug. Here are five molly drug facts you probably never knew about.

Molly is not exactly identical to MDMA or ecstasy

Molly DrugThe drug molly is often interchangeably used with MDMA or ecstasy. Even if you conduct a Google search, that’s what the search results will most likely tell you. However, in the real world, that’s not what you’re going to get. MDMA is short for 3, 4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, which is a psychoactive drug used recreationally. It is illegal in most countries and has no approved medical uses. In 2017, however, it is being studied as a potential therapy drug for PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder) and if the results are promising, it can be further reviewed for medical use.

Ecstasy or E is the colloquial slang for MDMA that comes in tablet form. In theory, it is supposed to be the same as MDMA, however, in the early 2000s, it was revealed that most ecstasy pills sold in the market were cut with other substances. This is the reason why the drug molly came about. Molly was supposed to be the purer version of MDMA. In the early years, this may be true, but in more recent years, tests have shown that the molly drugs being sold in social media, on the streets and in music festivals are not MDMA at all.

Almost 90% of molly drugs do not contain MDMA

Drug manufacturers often mix substances to create drugs that are stronger, more potent, or to save money. For example, the ongoing opioid crisis saw many deaths due to the synthetic opioid fentanyl being mixed with other less potent opioids. This has made drug users who thought that they were only taking oxycodone or codeine accidentally suffer an overdose.

With the molly drug, it is alarming to note that while many people think that it is a purer alternative to ecstasy, it has been revealed that this is often not the case. According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, out of all the molly drug they’ve seized in New York in four years, only thirteen percent (13%) contained any MDMA and even these were mixed with other substances. The molly drug being sold in the market nowadays are said to be made with a combination of synthetic chemicals that mimic MDMA.

Molly is being used by teens in 10th to 12th Grade

With molly being popular in parties and music festivals, many teens are exposed to this drug when they attend such events. While 10th to 12th graders are more likely to try using molly, there have also been reports of students as young as 8th grade who have used the drug. Using molly or any drug for that matter is very dangerous, especially for young people whose brains are still developing. This can render long-term effects to the brain and body that could be irreversible.

Molly can cause dangerous side effects

Molly Drug FactsMany people who take molly are after the euphoric effects rendered by the drug, however, not many of these users are aware that taking this drug can cause dangerous side effects. Because most of the molly sold on social media or on the streets are cut with a variety of different chemicals and substances, you can’t be sure what you’re getting. Every molly table can be different so every time you take the drug, it’s like taking a gamble on your life. According to reports, molly combined with synthetic substances can cause psychotic and violent behavior, chest pains, dehydration, and kidney failure.

Even if you’re taking a “pure” molly with MDMA, this can still cause disturbing side effects. MDMA can cause the body and the brain to overheat and unable to regulate temperature which can result in a heat stroke. A heat stroke can cause permanent damage to the heart, brain, and muscles. Other side effects include seizures, confusion, paranoia, and anxiety.  Long-term use can also cause memory loss and depression.

Molly can kill you

Molly is a dangerous drug that can be fatal to anyone because the users often do not have any idea what’s really in the drug that they’re taking. There have been numerous drug overdose deaths because of molly and it becomes more dangerous when mixed with alcohol or other drugs. Even if you’re a first-time user who just took molly due to peer pressure or you’ve been using other drugs for a long time, you’re still vulnerable to the deadly effects of this drug.
