Frequently Asked Questions About Detox at Anaheim Lighthouse

Medical detox is medically supervised withdrawal management that helps stabilize you as your body adjusts to stopping drugs or alcohol. At Lighthouse Detox, 24/7 monitoring and support are paired with medical evaluation, COWS/CIWA withdrawal assessments, medication-assisted withdrawal or taper management when clinically appropriate, psychiatric and clinical assessment, and treatment planning. The immediate focus is physical stabilization, symptom support, and preparation for continued care. Admissions can review your current substance use and symptoms and help determine whether detox is the right first level of care.

Most clients remain in detox for about 3 to 10 days. The exact timeline depends on the substance used, withdrawal severity, medical history, current symptoms, and response to care. Ongoing medical and clinical assessments guide the length of stay. Transition planning begins at admission, so the next step can be coordinated as stabilization improves. For many clients, that means moving directly into Residential Treatment or another appropriate level within the Lighthouse continuum.

Each day focuses on stabilization, symptom management, nutrition, rest, and regular monitoring. Clients receive vitals and withdrawal assessments, medical evaluation, medication support when indicated, meals, clinical check-ins, and access to support staff throughout the day and night. As physical stability improves, clients can begin selected Recovery Education, Relapse Prevention, peer support, wellness activities, or recovery meetings. Participation follows the client's condition and readiness, keeping medical stabilization at the center of the detox experience.

Yes. Monitoring and support continue 24/7, with medical providers, nursing, clinical, and support staff involved according to each client's needs. A medical or psychiatric provider evaluates new admissions within 24 hours. Staff use structured withdrawal assessments such as COWS and CIWA, ongoing observation, and symptom monitoring to guide care and identify concerns that need additional medical attention. Lighthouse is licensed by DHCS and CARF accredited.

Group participation depends on your physical condition and clinical readiness. Medical stabilization, rest, and symptom support come first. When you feel well enough, selected recovery support groups, psychoeducation, Relapse Prevention, wellness activities, peer connection, recreational activities, or optional spiritual support may be available. The pace stays aligned with what your body can manage during withdrawal.

Treatment planning starts before detox ends. Many clients transition directly into Residential Treatment, while others move into PHP, IOP, Sober Living, or another clinically appropriate setting. Recommendations reflect progress, medical necessity, recovery goals, living environment, support system, and practical needs. Coordinating the next level before discharge reduces uncertainty and helps preserve momentum as you move into deeper recovery work.

Coverage depends on your plan, benefits, medical necessity, and eligibility. Lighthouse accepts 30+ commercial insurance plans, offers private pay options, and is Medi-Cal/DMC certified. Admissions verifies benefits, reviews available financial pathways, explains reported coverage, and identifies known financial responsibility before arrival whenever possible. Your insurer makes the final coverage and authorization decisions, but you do not need to solve the insurance process before calling.

Yes. A spouse, parent, relative, or close support person can call Admissions for guidance. You do not need to know which level of care is right or have every detail figured out before making the call. The team can gather initial information, explain what to expect, verify insurance, coordinate logistics, and help determine the appropriate next step. Family involvement can add clarity, encouragement, and accountability when someone is fearful, ambivalent, or overwhelmed about entering treatment.
